MOROCCO: MEASURES INTRODUCED BY THE CUSTOMS SERVICE TO BETTER MANAGE THE COUNTRY’S FOREIGN RESERVES

25/03/2020

Given the current global health situation, Morocco, such as many other countries, has known a decline in its foreign exchange inflows due to the decrease of tourism receipts, Moroccans' living abroad transfers and exports of goods and services.

As part of ongoing government’s efforts to contain the impact of Coronavirus’ spread on the Moroccan balance of payments, the Customs Department’s Director wrote a letter to the President of the Association of Importers of Mounted Motor Vehicles requesting him to:

  • Invite the Association’s members to reduce their imports to the bare minimum by negotiating their deferments with suppliers;
  • Ask the Association’s members to provide to the Customs a table, summarizing for the upcoming months, the imports in progress (already underway) and those that couldn’t be postponed or canceled.
