PAST ACQUISITIONS OF TECH GIANTS UNDER ANTITRUST SCRUTINY

Federal Trade Commission (“FTC”), the U.S. antitrust authority, initiated an examination over the past acquisitions of Alphabet, Apple, Facebook, Google, and Microsoft.
FTC will evaluate following issues within the scope of this examination:
- Market effects of past acquisitions,
- Anti-competitive effects of past acquisitions,
- Performance and market strategies of acquired small tech firms after the acquisitions,
- Whether authority and enforcement of agencies are adequate to examine such transactions.
The Authority requested comprehensive information from tech giants regarding the terms, scope, structure and purpose of the past acquisitions that have taken place between January 1st,2010 and December 31st,2019 without the antitrust approval.
