COVID-19 UPDATE ON IP – TURPATENT RELEASED DETAILS OF TIME EXTENSIONS

As a precaution for prevent the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in Turkey, The Law No. 7226 on the Amendment of Certain Laws (The Law) was adopted and published in the Official Gazette on March 26, 2020.

Within the scope of Article 1, The Law also covers the periods specified in the Industrial Property Law No. 6769. Turkish Patent and Trademark Authority (TURKPATENT) has released a new detailed announcement regarding processing times and deadlines of industrial property applications.

Accordingly, the suspended time limits and new deadlines in the industrial property legislation will be implemented as follows:

The Last Date When the Process Can Be Performed According to The Law No. 7226

Given time limit expires on March 12 or in an earlier date

The last process date will not change.

Given time limit expires on or between March 13-27 (Including specified dates)

15 May 2020

Given time limit expires on or between March 28 – April 30 (including specified dates)

The remaining time as of 13 March 2020 will be added to 1 May 2020 for the process to be carried out.

Given time limit starts before March 13 and expires on or after May 1

49 days will be added to the end date of the period given by the Office.

Given time limit starts on or between March 13 – April 30 (including specified dates)

The period given by the Office will start on 1 May 2020.
