The Council of Ministers has approved a bill stating that, for the time being, the penalties do not have to be paid if the IND decides too late on asylum applications. It is a temporary law that applies until there is a new law that regulates this structurally. The permanent law is processed as soon as possible.
Even if penalties can no longer be demanded by foreign nationals, it is of great importance that applications are processed on time. That is why a special Task Force has been set up to eliminate the backlogs at the IND.
The government has also decided to maintain the legal assistance for asylum seekers from the start of the asylum procedure. Initially, this would only be provided from an intention to reject by the IND. The temporary law applies to all asylum cases for which no notice of default has yet been submitted.
