European Commission carried out unannounced inspections at the premises of several companies in Germany active in the supply, transmission, and storage of natural gas. The Commission has concerns that the inspected companies may have violated EU competition rules that prohibit abuse of a dominant position. Commission co-operated with Bundeskartellamt during inspections.
The European Commission underlined that on-site investigations are carried out as part of a preliminary investigation and that there is no certainty about the outcome of the investigation. In addition, it was stated by the Commission that the right of legal hearing of undertakings is respected within the protection of the right to defence. There is no legal deadline to complete inquiries into anticompetitive conduct.
