HUGE FINES PROPOSED FOR FAILURE TO DELETE INTERNET PAGES WITH BANNED INFORMATION

24/07/2020

New amendments to the Code of Administrative Offenses have been submitted to the State Duma. In particular, the project introduces new fines for the owners of websites and internet media resources. A fine may be imposed, in particular, for not deleting a web page with illegal information.

Officials might be fined from 200 thousand up to 400 thousand rubles, legal entities - from 800 thousand to 4 million rubles. Repeated violations will imply higher amounts.

Stricter fines are anticipated for cases when information containing, for example, calls for extremism or describing ways of making and using drugs, isn’t removed. Here fines may vary up to 8 million rubles.

Similar penalties will be imposed on hosting providers who have not taken action to restrict access to a resource with prohibited information.

The project does not concern cases of copyright or related rights violations.
