NOT COOPERATING WITH THE QUARANTINE OBLIGATION WILL HAVE SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES IN THE NETHERLANDS

12/08/2020

The number of infections and the number of positive contacts is increasing sharply in the Netherlands. That is why the Minister of Health, Welfare and Sport announced new measures in a letter to the House of Respresentatives on 11 August 2020.

It concerns the following measures:

1. Participation in the source and contact investigation becomes less without obligation.

Presidents of safety regions will be given the option of requiring people who have had contact with a potentially infected person to go into home quarantine. It will also be checked whether people adhere to it. When an individual order for quarantine has been imposed, non-compliance is punishable. Implementation of this measure will start in the second half of next week and will be introduced in phases.

In addition, it is being considered whether cooperation with the source and contact investigation can be made compulsory by means of a penalty. This would not be an alternative to the quarantine measure, but an additional tool to improve cooperation with source and contact investigation and quarantine. In case of a quarantine imposed by the security region, a hefty fine can follow in case of non-compliance.

2. Travelers coming from high-risk areas must cooperate with registration and quarantine.

Travelers coming from a high-risk area are already being asked to go into quarantine. In the future, they will be subject to a quarantine obligation and are also obliged to cooperate in the source and contact investigation.
