The Russian competition authority Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) has launched an investigation against bread sellers for anticompetitive cooperation.
Within the scope of the activity to monitor the prices of socially important products, including bread and bakery products, FAS obtained findings that there was a significant increase in bread prices in the Transbaikal Region. The Authority revealed a synchronized growth of retail prices for rye and white bread by 20% in three outlets without any increase in costs, although there was no rational reason for retailers to raise prices. FAS warned the undertakings by noting that not only companies but also individuals within the cartel, have criminal responsibility in collaborations between competitors. (FAS - 27.04.2020)
