RUSSIAN COMPETITION AUTHORITY PUBLISHED THE FIFTH DIGITAL ANTIMONOPOLY PACKAGE

27/04/2020

Russian competition authority FAS issued a statement emphasizing the urgency of adopting the fifth “digital” antimonopoly package of amendments to the Federal Law “On Protection of Competition”, that focuses on monopolistic activities of large digital platforms.

The Authority emphasizes that digital platforms are strengthening their market power as the pandemic period speeded up the digital transformation. The draft aimed to protect competition and the consumers’ interests in Russia against digital giants. The draft will ban monopolistic activity of the persons that own these giant digital platforms and set antimonopoly requirements to agreements and actions for granting and using the exclusive rights on intellectual property items.
