THE NETHERLANDS EXTENDS THE BORDER CLOSURE FOR PEOPLE FROM OUTSIDE EUROPE

Travel restrictions have been extended until June 15. This includes the curtailment of all unnecessary travel of persons from third countries to Europe (all EU Member States, all members of Schengen and the UK) with the aim of preventing the spread of the COVID19 virus. This means that persons who do not fall under the following exceptional position will not enter the Netherlands.

The travel restriction does not apply to the following categories of persons:

• EU citizens (including nationals of the United Kingdom) and their family members who reside or are going to have permanent residence in the Netherlands;

• Nationals of Norway, Iceland, Switzerland and Liechtenstein and their family members;

• Third-country nationals who hold a residence card or residence permit in accordance with Directive 2003/109 / EC (the Long-Term Residents Directive);

• Third-country nationals who derive their right of residence from other European directives or from the national law of a Member State;

• Holders of a long-stay visa, including those with a temporary residence permit (MVV).

 

Other persons from third countries with a vital function or need, including:

• Care staff;

• Frontier workers;

• Persons working in the transport of goods and other transport personnel, as necessary, this includes container ships, bulk ships (eg ore or coal), tankers (fuels and chemicals), fisheries, persons working in the energy sector, ie oil and gas platforms and wind farms as well as offshore companies that provide services to this sector, and flight crew;

• Diplomats;

• Military personnel;

• Personnel of international and humanitarian organizations;

• Persons who have compelling reasons to visit their family;

• Transit passengers who wish to travel to another third country via the Netherlands or another Schengen country;

• Persons in need of international protection;

• Persons admitted for humanitarian reasons.
